Hi, friends!
Holy smokes, it’s June. When did that happen?
As you may (or may not) have noticed, Bloom for Life has changed to Life in Bloom. It’s a change I’ve been contemplating for a while and am so happy to finally have carried out. Life in Bloom, to me, seems more inclusive and less “me” oriented. I want those who visit this website to feel as if the website exists for them. It does. It exists for you.
Anyhoo, today I’d like to share one of my staple recipe that I rely on every day. It’s for a CBD-infused matcha latte — my go-to in the morning… and pretty much any time of the day. I love matcha green tea powder for many reasons.
What is Matcha Green Tea Powder?
First of all, matcha is powdered green tea mixed in hot water. You’re literally eating the whole green tea leaf, versos drinking the water steeped with green tea leaves. As a result, matcha contains 3x more caffeine and 10x the nutrients of regular ol’ steeped green tea.
How Much Caffeine Does It Contain?
2 grams of matcha contains approximately 72 mg of natural caffeine. That is slightly less than a cup of coffee but more than 2 shots of espresso. Fortunately, it also contains the amino acid L-theanine, which “tempers” the high and makes it more focused. L-theanine also prevents matcha from causing the “jitters.”
Benefits of Matcha Green Tea Powder
- Helpful for Focus
Matcha green tea powder contains a key ingredient: L-theanine. This amino acid “tempers” the caffeine so the “high” is more focused.
Tenzo reports, “L-theanine boosts the production of alpha waves in the brain. These alpha waves encourage relaxation and induce a profound feeling of mental clarity and a more alert state of mind – the same mental state can be found in meditation and yoga practice.” - Boosts the Metabolism
Matcha can help you keep extra pounds off. This is due to green tea catechizes which activate the body’s thermogenic fat burning activity* (13). This 12-week study found that ingesting green tea led to a significant reduction in BMI, waist circumference, body fat mass, and subcutaneous fat area of healthy Japanese men and women. - Full of Antioxidants
Matcha green tea powder has the highest antioxidant rating of all major superfoods. There’s even a test to move it! According to the ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorption Capacity) test, which measures the antioxidant levels in foods, Matcha Green Tea measures 1384 units per gram* (2). In case you’re wondering, that’s 13x the antioxidants of pomegranates, 15x the antioxidants of blueberries, and 125x that of spinach.

Good to Know:
The flavor of matcha differs depending on the quality. For instance, ceremonial-grade matcha from Chasen and Stone, for instance, is going to have a very rich and full taste compared to convenient store culinary grade. I highly recommend investing in a good-quality matcha green tea powder for enjoyment and because quality matters in terms of nutrition.
PrintCBD-Infused Matcha Latte with Nut Milk [Vegan]
The L-theanine in the green tea tempers the caffeine, resulting in a calm and relaxed caffeine high. When combined with dairy-free milk, the drink turns into a delicious latte you’ll never tire of serving up.

I love matcha green tea. I actually crave it over coffee now, and I used to be a coffee addict.
If you like matcha as much as I do, I recommend you try this recipe for a raw and vegan matcha chocolate cheesecake.
