To be fair, I posted this first on Life’s Flower(Earth We Are One), but just love it because its simplicity (and the fact that proposing healthy sweet treats to others inspires them further to make lifelong habits)… so am sharing it with you today.

No one wants to feel deprived, and that’s why I love the concept of ‘healthy’ desserts. Sure, they’re treats  – snacks or indulgences that you consume every once and a while… but they are blooming with health benefits that one wouldn’t receive if they reached for regular ol’ chocolate cake or processed (and dairy-filled) store-bought treats.

For example:

Maca balances hormones, boosts libido naturally, reduces PMS symptoms, boosts energy, enhances skin, and is rich in B and C vitamins.

Goji Berries are an incredible source of anti-oxidants, B vitamins, and beauty nutrients vitamin A, E, & C.

and Cacao… oh, Cacao. This ‘super’ food opens up the heart (4th) and crown (7th) chakras, is incredibly rich in anti-oxidants, actually protects your heart and reduces cardiovascular disease, can benefit mood (think stimulant: theobromine), and just tastes darn amazing. (But friends, moderation in everything, please. Like any stimulant, too much over a period of time can tax your adrenals).

Note: I like using maca and cacao together because they balance each other out. Maca aids the adrenals, so can offset some of that stimulant action. Plus, they taste great together!

Instructions

  1. Add walnuts to the bowl of a food processor and process for a few seconds until walnuts form a coarse meal.
  2. Add rest of ingredients (except water) to food processor and run until a crumbly dough has been formed. Using fingers to ‘pinch’ dough together, checking it if will stick together. If mixture is too dry then add water, a little at a time and process again for a few seconds, until it holds together
  3. Take tablespoon amounts of dough and use hands to roll into balls. Enjoy, or store in a covered container in the fridge for up to one week.OR
  4. Sprinkle some shredded coconut into a 8 x 8 glass dish and use your hands to smooth brownie contents flat. Let sit in the fridge for 20 minutes, and then slice into squares. You may drizzle a raw chocolate (like the one used in these Almond Joy bars) on top and finish with cacao nibs, or serve ‘as-is’.
